I tell friends I have been training for this for 25 years.
For almost that long I have worked from home. I last went in to an office 9:00 to 5:00 (or actually more like 8:00 to 7:00) in 1996, in Massachusetts. Since that time I have been fortunate to pursue Internet / web consulting and tech journalism from anywhere I could achieve connectivity.
In my active working career, teams mostly held together over something akin to Facebook Messenger. Text only, no video. The age of Slack / Zoom / Google Hangouts / Microsoft Teams video conferences happened after my retirement in 2015.
But spending days alone, interacting with clients (and friends) remotely? Been doing that.
I feel fortunate that the self-isolation now required isn’t a big stretch from what I have been living for some time now.
