Easier said than done.
My wife and I just went through the exercise of signing up for a Lunds & Byerlys “Extra” account, putting together a grocery order, and scheduling it for delivery.
The Extra account signup is somewhat alarming, if you read the fine print while signing up, as we did (Katharyn is a lawyer’s daughter). You are giving away a lot of privacy with that signup. We are both pretty careful about personal privacy during normal times; but these times are anything but normal, and needs must.
The Extra signup and working our way through the ordering process for maybe a dozen items took half an hour.
The first available delivery slot was between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Monday. That’s today, right? We didn’t happen to notice before finalizing the order that the date in question was actually Monday April 20. Really. First available delivery. Three weeks out.
So we went back online to convert the order to store pickup. In other words, L&B would pick and pack the items and drop them in our car outside the store.
First available slot for that service: April 15. Two weeks.
So we cancelled the order instead, after maybe an hour invested. Called Widmer’s (local small grocer) and asked about delivery. They have discontinued the service. Forgot to ask them about curbside pickup.
By the way, Widmer’s has given their front-line employees a raise and shortened their open hours, according to a recent Yelp review. Good to know.
